- Mechanisms remain unclear but thought to be due to:
- Reduced patient-ventilator dyssynchrony
- Improved chest wall compliance resulting in reduced driving pressures
- Anti-inflammatory effect
- Not established whether these are limited to (cis-) atracurium or wider NMB agents
