- Propofol products contain soya-bean oil and egg derivatives though unlikely allergenic:
- Egg component is derived from yolk, whereas the egg white albumin is antigenic
- All antigenic protein from soya bean oil removed
- Studies have shown allergy to propofol extremely rare:
- Editorial concluded “there is convincing evidence that propofol is safe in patients who are allergic to peanut and/or soy and/or egg. Further research is required before children who have experienced severe anaphylaxis to egg”
